Resources
I leave it to you to define for yourself what financial feminism means, but one of the many things it means for me is freely sharing economically empowering resources that help us individually and collectively dismantle dominant oppressive paradigms. This list will be modest at first but there’s more to come so please keep checking back and don’t hesitate to email me if you have resources to share. - Winter :)
This SF-based recording studio is dedicated to the advancement of women and gender-expansive people in music/audio production and creative technology fields. WAM offers training, mentorship, and conferences. As a supporter Winter was able to access their network and recently connected with Casey Hudson Audio and Dana Jae Audio Collective, who we’ll be working with as often as I can.
It's always a delight when you meet someone at the beginning of their curation of a dynamic concept and watch as they take it to the next level. So it was with Jasmine Rashid who Winter first met after an article Jasmine wrote called the "Financial Activist Playbook for Supporting Black Lives.”
It's now a full fledge book called Financial Activist Playbook: A Guide to Strategies Big & Small for Moving Money for Racial Justice, full of actionable steps we can all take to redirect our funds and advocate for a healthier economy and culture.
Winter crossed paths with people who get that our exploitative economy needs fixing, but none have gone as far as these folks to help others figure out how to do it. Amongst other things they’ve written The Next Economy MBA book and offer a 9 month course on it’s teachings, which I’m presently taking.
It’s been challenging for some time to track in one place what live music is happening in the Bay Area, even for folks in the biz. Pamela Gerstein has done an amazing job packing her site, social media and weekly email list with worthy recommendations, an extensive calendar listing, opportunities to win tickets, behind the scene tidbits and live footage from the shows she and other BISS’ers have attended.
