QUALITY VIBE BLAST

Hello Beautiful People!

Grateful to everyone who reached out with appreciation, encouragement or hugs after my last email addressing joy and resilience. It’s my continued intention to be as authentic as I can in hopes of better connecting with those with who share my passions. I’m at peace knowing I won’t/can’t please everyone, but it still feels hella good to get an attagrrl once in a while. So thank you!

Today I’m inspired to share more about why I’ve been hosting Instrumental Funk Sessions at the Ivy Room in Albany, CA.

1st) Funk consistently, more than any other genre, quickly busts barriers so that people can relax, dance and find joy in one another’s company. At least that’s how it seems to this life long smile tracker. And who doesn’t need to feel a sense of community, especially in these times?

2nd) Turns out the more an audience dances and enjoys itself, the more fun the performers usually have. They also often favor mixing it up once a while with different musicians and tunes. How’s that for a win-win-win?

3rd) Lani Torres and Summer Gerling (co-owners of the Ivy Room) are the type of venue owners we need more of. They remain professional while persisting in a male dominated industry that relies on a long-standing acceptance of exploitative practices. They’ve also been impressively resilient despite COVID and other Goliath-sized challenges. So when you shake your booty at the Ivy Room you can feel good about supporting a badass LGBTQ+ woman-owned business!

In short, I’m stoked to help spread joy through Funk, support sheroes like Lani and Summer, and collaborate with talented musicians (local and touring) who are game to get loose for/with us.

The last Funk Session of 2023 will be this coming Tuesday featuring Latin Funk with Bill Ortega Jr (trumpet), Bob Crawford (keys), Joaquin Solorzano (bass guitar), Mio Flores (percussion), Richard Cravalho (guitar), Richie Aguan (drums). New to the mix is Boriqua Kitchen who will be serving Puerto Rican street food out front…so we’ve even got you covered for dinner!

More information info for this Tuesday’s Funk Session and the Montclair Village Holiday Stroll on Thursday, December 7th (4-8pm) can be found here on my website so please check those out if you’re interested and as always, help spread the word!

Funk you very much,

Winter :)
